How long does a facelift last?

What type of anaesthesia will be used and how long will the surgery take?
Most times the surgery will be performed under a full general anaesthetic, however, sometimes the surgery can be performed with a local anaesthetic. Most of the time the type of anaesthesia that will be performed will depend on weather you will be having work done to the eyes or brow area.
The longer your surgery will be the better it would be for you to be under a general anaesthetic. This will help against experiencing any discomforts that you would feel under a local anaesthetic.
What happens after you have received your face lift surgery?
After your facelift it is important that you understand that what you see may be a bit shocking, but this is all normal.
The bandages on your face will be fastened tight because of the tightness that will be in your muscles during surgery. Once these are removed, your face will still feel tight and will continue to do so over the following first few days, particularly as the swelling starts to set in place. As a result, you may feel that you are unable to open and close your mouth properly.
When you look in the mirror, you will be shocked that you don’t look any fresher than before. During this time, many patients actually hate both themselves and their surgeon for having done this, however, this is quite normal, and this will settle within the following next 2-3 weeks.
Once the bandages are removed, your hair will be washed carefully and then you may return home.
Over the next few days your hair should be washed daily with a gentle shampoo, and great care should be taken when doing this. After 6-7 days afterwards, you will return to the surgery and your progress will be assessed.
Will your facelift be painful?
Because of the bandages that will be wrapped around your face you may experience a tight sensation in the face. This is likely to last for at least 10 days. It is worthy noting that a very small amount of patients actually experience any pain after there surgery takes place.
